Cannot afford to buy Adobe Photoshop, you can use this FREE image editor tool as a replacement. GIMP is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

Full suite of painting tools including Brush, Pencil, Airbrush, Clone, etc.
Layers and channels
Editable text layers
Selection tools including rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, free, fuzzy
Load and save animations in a convenient frame-as-layer form

I've been using Gimp for a while now. Works great similar to Photoshop without the crazy price tag. You really can't beat all the features and things Gimp does for FREE!
